The opportunity

A fantastic opportunity for an Assistant Planner / Planner is available in our team, working alongside a team of experienced and skilled town planners.  You will be able to quickly learn and develop your knowledge of the planning process within a consultancy environment.

We can offer you the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, including identifying new development opportunities and delivering major mixed-use urban extensions across the UK.  You will be working with national house builders, land promoters, and landowners.  From securing planning permissions and land allocations, to negotiating S106 Agreements and conditions, you will be given the opportunity to be a key part of our business.

We have big growth plans and are looking for people with the enthusiasm to come and be part of this with us.

The key duties will be:

  • advising on development potential of land and buildings
  • assisting with preparing planning applications and appeals
  • providing policy advice and research
  • drafting representations to plan consultations and examinations
  • utilising a range of resources to identify land opportunities
  • working with clients and other consultants to deliver development

Skills and experience you will have:

  • some previous experience in a Planning role (ideally from within local government, consultancy or development industry) would be ideal however we are open to applications from ambitious Graduates (Town Planning or Geography preferred)
  • a relevant Planning qualification (or working towards one)
  • membership of RTPI or working towards membership

Key competencies you will need:

  • an understanding of the planning process and systems
  • excellent writing skills with a strong eye for detail and high level of accuracy
  • excellent communication skills and a friendly approachable manner
  • ability to prioritise workload and manage time efficiently
  • strong IT skills
  • drive, commitment, enthusiastic and a team player approach

The team:

Marrons Planning are a nationally growing team of town planning, socio-economic and design consultants providing high quality advice and guidance on a wide range of planning and development issues.

We advise on planning matters of all types and scales from leading and co-ordinating large and complex development proposals, to dealing with small scale and householder developments.  We act on behalf of major house builders and developers, manufacturers and investment companies, blue chip companies and land promoters, in addition to land and property owners, retailers, local authorities and private individuals across the United Kingdom. 

We co-ordinate, project manage and audit planning applications, including EIA development, urban regeneration schemes, urban extensions, site allocation and promotions and strategic planning, housing land supply advice and commercial/retail planning expertise.  We provide expert advice and guidance to our clients throughout all stages of the planning process and have considerable experience and knowledge of negotiating with local planning authorities, resolving issues, and delivering planning permissions.

Marrons Planning is part of law firm Shakespeare Martineau. We are part of a large multi-disciplinary team which comprises lawyers, surveyors and chartered town planners.  As part of Shakespeare Martineau, you will also have access to high quality training and support for the key business skills you need to progress your career in planning consultancy. We support and fund membership of the RTPI for our team.

We have hubs in Birmingham, Leicester, London, Milton Keynes, Nottingham, Solihull, Stratford-upon-Avon, Lincoln and Sheffield. This role will be hybrid with the option to work from home and either our Milton Keynes or Leicester hubs.
