The opportunity

Bespoke Development Manager 

This role is part of the maturing of our IT Organisation, adding specialisation and technical knowledge into the Applications and Development team to help us support our IT project portfolio and current technologies.

Role Purpose

  • Manage an internal team of developers, engineers and technical analysts and  working with partners of various sizes and capabilities in order to provide the delivery capability needed to ensure successful solution outcomes
  • Interfacing with Business Change, PMO, other Technical Teams and Architects to communicate development progression and assuring quality of delivery
  • Own architectural blueprint for our bespoke applications (style, tooling, application communication strategy (APIs, servicebus, microservices) etc)
  • Work with team to formalise best practice standards and methodologies

Role Priorities

The immediate priorities are:

  • Manage the delivery of the Bespoke Development team and partners by having clearly defined and actionable metrics
  • Formalising the coding standards and processes currently in use, defining metrics to measure success and needs of team
  • Becoming familiar with the applications, integrated solutions, backlogs and current roadmaps
  • Modernise how we do development transitioning on premise solutions to Azure PaaS

Key Accountabilities

  • As an experienced Development Manager, you will lead development projects across predominantly Microsoft C# .Net MVC, SQL Server technologies and Web API’s as well as infrastructure focussed requirements and solutions. Managing the successful delivery of these solutions will require you to plan, coordinate and lead activities across the full delivery lifecycle.
  • Responsible for the resource management, recruitment, development and growth of our bespoke development capabilities.
  • Leading design phases on Business IT programmes, validating requirements and ensuring that all aspects of UX, data and solution design are within scope, complete, and deliverable.
  • Having responsibility for the architecture of data and solutions delivered to the business, both from internal and external suppliers.
  • Handover from development and pilot into supported production, ensuring that appropriate documentation and support models are in place.
  • Change, Incident & Release Management of Bespoke Developments.
  • Having responsibility for the on time delivery of quality solutions that meet business requirements.
  • Supplier and cost management of software and providers.
  • Supporting Business Solutions arising from M&A activities
  • Being a champion for innovation, analysing new technology solutions that could bring significant benefit to the business.

Skills and experience

A minimum of 3 years demonstrable track record of successful management of internal and external development teams to deliver complex technical and service solutions

You will need to have significant previous experience with the below tech stack: 

  • C#, .Net  & ASP.Net
  • Python and Javascript
  • MS SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS , T-SQL, Azure SQL Server, SQL managed instances,  Azure Database Migration Services
  • Source Control
  • Experience of Microsoft architectural blueprints and transitioning on premise application to the cloud
  • Azure Cloud development, Blazor, NServiceBus, CQRS and Domain-driven design, Scrum/Agile, API Design and management skills 
  • Data Engineering projects using  Data Lakes, Data factories, ETL techniques, Synapse and PowerBI
  • MS Logic and Power Apps
  • Azure DevOps

Experience with the following would be beneficial:

  • AI + Machine Learning
  • Analytics: Analysis Services, Data Lake Analytics, Data Catalog
  • DevOps: Application Insights
